Car Paint Protection - What is it and How Does it Work?

Thu 26th Jun 2025

Car paint protection is one of the best ways to keep your car looking showroom-fresh for longer. Here at David Hayton, we work with award-winning paint specialists Diamond Brite to offer the very best paint protection on your next new car, ensuring that it’s armoured against the worst of what the roads can throw at it.

But what exactly is car paint protection, how does it work, and is it the best fit for you and your new car? Let’s find out.

What is car paint protection?

Car paint protection is just that - protection for your paint to help fight against stone chips and other issues. Diamond Brite uses a two-stage process which applies an invisible protective ‘skin’ over a car, which can protect it against issues such as road salts, tree sap and other pollutants.

Diamond Brite’s finish also comes with a guarantee against colour fading - ensuring that your car remains in that factory-fresh shade for longer, and is even covered against the damage from bird droppings, provided it’s cleaned off within seven days.

How is paint protection applied?

Diamond Brite’s car paint protection is applied in ceramic coating form, meaning that a very thin liquid film is carefully used to cover all of the main body panels, as well as areas such as wheels and windows. Its ceramic coating is sprayed over a car and carefully worked in, before it turns hard and protective.

Once in place, there’s no need to maintain it - it’ll keep your car in showroom-ready condition with very little maintenance.

Do I need to wax a car with paint protection?

No - that’s the best bit. Car paint protection requires very little upkeep, and you’ll never need to polish your car again after it has been applied. The good news is that regular washes will become easier, too, as the protection allows grime and water to streak off far more easily.

So the next time you grab your bucket and microfibre mitt, you’ll find it much easier to clean your car.

Can I get protection for the inside of my car, too?

That high-quality protection isn’t just reserved for the outside of your car, either. Our collaboration with Diamond Brite means that you can also get protection for your car’s interior as well as exterior.

Available for both fabric and leather, the protection works similarly to the one applied to the car’s exterior and helps to create a barrier that can keep dirt and grime from making a lasting mark.

Are there any products I’ll need after the ceramic coating has been applied?

Once you’ve got the ceramic coating applied to your car, there are some products which can help things further. Enquire with the David Hayton team and they’ll be able to help you out with one of Diamond Brite’s ‘take me home’ packs, which includes a dedicated shampoo that can help keep your car as clean as can be following those regular washes.

Make sure you ask one of the team about these kits when setting up your car paint protection.

How long will it take to apply the protection?

The good news is that it shouldn’t take too long to get your car paint protection ready. Timings vary between vehicles depending on their size and complexity, but you can expect a wait time of between one and three days.

The best bet is to speak to the team here at David Hayton, and they’ll be able to give you a better idea about how long you’ll have to wait for your car to get its paint protection.

We’ve got a range of vehicles to check out here at David Hayton, and you’ll find that paint protection can help to preserve the look and feel of all of them. Get in touch today to find out more.
